What is the race entry deadline?

Advance online registration closes on Wednesday, May 24 at midnight.

There will be ‘in person’ race registration on Friday May 26 from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and on Saturday May 27 from 6 a.m. – 7:15 a.m. at The Centre Fieldhouse, 100 Symphony Way, Elgin, IL, 60120.

Where do I get my race number, timing chip and T-shirt?

 All participants can collect their race items (bib number, timing chip & T-shirt) on Friday May 26 from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. or on Saturday May 27 from 6 a.m. – 7:15 a.m. at The Centre Fieldhouse, 100 Symphony Way, Elgin, IL, 60120. ***NOTE: Walkers only receive a T-shirt

Can a friend collect my race bib & T-shirt on my behalf?

Yes. They will just need to sign to say they have done so.

Will gear check be available?

 Yes. Gear check will be available in the post party area. Each registered runner will have a tab on their race bib which they may exchange for one free item of gear check.

Where should I park?

Elgin has many free parking lots. Free parking lots are available at Symphony& Douglas, Douglas & Highland, Chicago & Spring, Prairie & Fulton and Grove & Kimball. Check out the downtown Elgin parking map. 

Remember, the City is also served by Metra and Pace.

Am I allowed to run with a baby jogger/stroller?

Baby joggers and strollers are not allowed in the 5k, 10K, or 10-mile race. Walkers with strollers are welcome to join in the 2-mile walk.

Are dogs allowed in the race?

Dogs are not allowed in the 5k, 10K, or 10-mile race. Well controlled, leashed dogs are welcome to join their owners in the 2-mile walk.

Is it possible to walk the 5K or 10K route?

In order to keep the race competitive and appealing for our runners, we do not allow people to walk the 5K or the 10K route. Walking for short periods during the run is fine, we just ask that you move to the side to allow runners to pass you. We also offer the option of the 2-mile walk route.

I am signed up for the 10-mile and want to change it to the 10K, or I signed up for the 10K but I would like to change to the 5K. Is this possible?

Yes. You can change your registration. You can do this in advance by contacting specialevents@cityofelgin.org, or, on the day of the race by reporting to The Centre Fieldhouse at 100 Symphony Way, Elgin, IL, 60120. We are unable to refund the difference in price.

I have signed up for the race, but I can no longer attend the race. Can I have a refund?

Unfortunately we are unable to offer refunds for registrations. If you know of someone who would like to take your place in the race we can assist you with transferring your registration. To do so, please contact specialevents@cityofelgin.org.

I will be visiting Elgin from out of town and would like to arrange lodging. Are there any special deals available with the race?

Will there be water or energy drinks for runners/walkers?

Yes, there will be water and energy drink stations located on the race and fresh fruit & beverages will be available following the race for participants. You can view the locations of the water stations on the course maps.

Can I take a shower after the race?

Yes. Showers will be available at The Centre (100 Symphony Way, Elgin, IL, 60120). Just remember your towel!

Does the race use timing chips?

Yes. We use timing chips for the 5K, 10K, and 10-mile courses.

I don’t have computer access. Can I register in person?

All advance registration is taken online. You may sign up at the Centre’s front desk using a credit or debit card. There will be ‘in person’ race registration on Friday, May 26 from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and on Saturday, May 27 from 6 a.m. – 7:15 a.m. at The Centre Fieldhouse, 100 Symphony Way, Elgin, IL, 60120.

Are prizes awarded at the race?

Yes. Trophies are presented to the top three finishers in each race and in each age group.

Does the Fox Trot raise money for non-profits?

Yes. The Fox Trot 2 mile walk for a cause is our charity element. Click here for information on the non-profits involved.

When does the race start?

The 2017 Fox Trot is on Saturday, May 27. The 10-mile race starts at 7:30 a.m. The 10K, 5K and 2-mile walk start times will be announced soon.

Where is the start/finish line?

The start/finish line for all races is at the intersection of Kimball and Douglas Street (231 Douglas Street, Elgin 60120).

What kind of t-shirt is included in my registration?

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Elgin Valley Fox Trot, all participants will receive a technical shirt this year (typically a $10 upgrade from the cotton T-shirt).

Can I watch/cheer on someone in the race?

Yes, anywhere along the race route and at the Finish line. View course maps here.

Is there a post race party?

Yes. There will be live music, free massages, stretching and food/drink available for purchase. All over 21 year olds who are registered in the 5K, 10K or 10-mile race have one free beer token on their race bib. More information about the post race party can be found here.

Can I volunteer to help?

Yes, please! We would not be able to offer this race without the help of our volunteers. To volunteer please contact specialevents@cityofelgin.org or call 311.
